The forum was presided over by Yang Bolun who is director of the Institute of Industrial Catalysis of the Institute of Chemical Industry. He first warmly welcomed the British scholars to attend the forum. He also mentioned the long-term cooperative relationship between Xi'an Jiaotong University and Liverpool University, and the close ties between the Western Jiaotong University and the Liverpool Department of Chemistry. This cooperation will be pushed to a higher level. It is hoped that the cooperation between the two sides will become a model of close links between the disciplines of chemistry and chemical engineering, and a model of close cooperation between high-level universities of China and Britain.

Subsequently, Zhang Zao who is the Secretary of the Party committee of the SCET introduced the guests. He congratulated Xi'an Jiao Tong University and University of Liverpool on the establishment of a joint laboratory for chemistry and chemical engineering. This meeting is the beginning of the catalytic field between the two sides, and we hope to carry out long-term cooperation in the future.

Wei Jinjia who is the dean of the SCET, briefly introduced the history, faculty, personnel training and characteristics of the Institute of Chemical Engineering. He said that in the future, he would seek in-depth cooperation with the Department of Chemistry of the University of Liverpool in the joint application of international exchange fund projects, Undergraduate Exchange projects, joint postgraduate training, regular academic forums and other aspects.

Nine scholars from the two sides made the frontier academic reports in the field of catalysis respectively. These reports caused intense discussion between the teachers and students present, and provided inspiration for their own scientific research.

The University of Liverpool has long been the top 1% of the world's leading research universities and one of the six famous red brick universities in Britain. The Department of Chemistry has a brilliant history, with two Nobel Prize winners and two Royal Society academicians. The establishment of the joint laboratory will gather first-class research personnel, build first-class research platform, and form first-class research results, provide a good opportunity for effective cooperation in related fields, and create more significant technical and economic benefits for both sides.

The joint laboratory will be co-chaired by Professor Yang Bolun and Professor Xiao Jianliang. The collaborate research topics are as follow:

1.Catalytic science and Catalytic reaction engineering

2.Material science and Material chemical engineering

3.Energy science and Energy chemical process intensification
